Paimpol & Tourism Attractions
Paimpol and its country
The campsite Domaine de Keravel is situated about 30 mn from the port of Paimpol as well as numerous attractions like the Beauport Abbay and the Castle of La Roche Jagu, historical heritage of the Côtes d’Armor.
Paimpol – Town character
The city name comes from the Breton “penn poull” either “end of the pond” because Paimpol was formerly a peninsula. The history of the city and its port is marked by the period of the “great fishing” immortalized by Pierre Loti’s novel “Iceland fishermen”, during which time the boats set sail from Paimpol to go fishing to the North coast. The port is now welcoming smaller fishing boats and visitors wishing to take a break and enjoy the special atmosphere of the city.
A festival of sea shanties welcome summer visitors during the month of August, giving the opportunity to immerse themselves in an atmosphere of centuries past.
Beauport Abbey
An attraction that could not be missed! It remains today one of the largest collections of religious architecture preserved in Britain, declared as a historical monument in 1862, following the initiative of Prosper Merimee. The Domain of Beauport has even been accepted as a member of the prestigious Network Great Sites of France (RGSF)! The Abbey was thus a welcome center for pilgrims going to Saint Jacques de Compostela and a center of business focused on the maritime economy.
